Specialty Merchandise Corporation has been around for over 60 years, so it is safe to say that they are doing something right. However, there have been several customer service complaints from individuals that have attempted to sell for SMC.
1. SMC Review - Customer Service - Cancellations
There have been complaints stating that a customer's membership was not successfully canceled after speaking with a customer service representative. However, these same complaints have also reported that the customer never stated that they wanted to cancel their membership and that it should have been implied. It is important to be clear in your desires when speaking with a representative in order to prevent customer service disputes.
2. SMC Review - Customer Service - Refunds
Previous sellers have complained that when they tried to return their membership kits they were either given a partial refund, or in some cases, no refund at all. SMC offers its customers a full refund only if they return their membership kits within 30 days of purchase. The kit must also be in its original condition to be eligible for a full refund. Many of these complaints did not specify if they were in fact within the 30-day time frame, making their customer service complaint less valid.
3. SMC Review - Customer Service - Support from Business Coaches
SMC provides their sellers with the guidance of a business coach for the first 90 days of their membership. The business coach gives advice that will help your home based business thrive. However, some members have complained that their business coach was rude and unhelpful. Others have complained that although they were promised the use of a business coach for 90 days, they did not get a response from them after their first interaction.
While it can be frustrating to not get a quick reply from a phone call or an email, remember that you are not the only seller that your business coach needs to contact. Be patient and understand that customer service is crucial for the success of any business, so most companies will work hard to maintain good relationships with their customers.
4. SMC Review - Customer Service - Credit Cards
Another customer service complaint is that you cannot use a credit card to purchase items on an SMC seller's website. All purchases must be made with an SMC gift card. This is helpful for tracking the seller's progress and for easily distributing payments. Although this is clearly explained on the SMC website, individuals often overlook this information before filing a complaint with customer service.
